How to deal when your attached for life?

I am sure this is awkward. I would keep his family at an arms length...not too close so they know your personal business, but close enough if you need help with your son they will be willing to help out. Just go with the small talk like "Have a good 4th of July", "Have a nice day", etc. but don't actually join in on a picnic or go shopping with them.
