Why child support for 26 year old?

A 26 year should have a job and have his own benefits ... good grief. If a 'child' must be covered by a parent up to that age; should we not reconsider the legal voting, drinking, smoking, driving, etc. age? I mean, if they are still too young and immature to be responsible and all?
