Snowboarding.. or skiing?

okay. i'm a skier and i plan to switch to snowboarding this winter.. i'm wondering if i should buy a snowboard or should i wait and rent one and then decided for the next year? also what would i be looking for in a snowboard if i wanted one for both terrain parks and just for the joy of going down the hills? also as far as size i'm 5'3 and 110 pounds. please help.
